I’ve been done with all my college classes for my first semester for almost a week now, and now my grades have all been posted. They are:
- English Composition I: A
- College Algebra: A
- Music Appreciation: A
This establishes my GPA at 4.0000, and I’m on the President’s Honor List. Will this continue?

Last night, as part of the requirements of my Music Appreciation class, my father and I attended the University of Texas University Orchestra in the Bates recital hall. Finding our way to the music building was a pain, especially since a road had apparently been renamed since the making of our map. When we finally found our way to the music building, we were in for a great show…

I seem to be doing fairly well with my three college classes. For the most part, it’s been pretty easy. None of my classes have been time consuming, either. Here’s a rundown.
English Composition I
- My first essay was very close to its final state in my first draft.
- The form of my first essay was not technically essay form. The instructor referred to my form as a “business memo”. She accepts the essay, but wishes for me to use a standard essay form next time because I have “clearly mastered this one”.
- I got 100% on the first vocabulary quiz.
College Algebra
- I find this class so easy that it’s laughable. I’ve learned only a few previously unknown concepts since I started.
- I correctly answered both of the pop quizzes thus far.
- My “math journals” (used to help us remember how we work our problems) got no comment other than “good journals”.
- The grade of my first test is 109%.
Music Appreciation
- My grade for the first quiz was 90%.
- I feel very confident of my performance on the second quiz, though I’ll not have my grade until next Wednesday.
If this keeps up, my father will have to buy me that Prius he promised.

Today I was in Wal-Mart when I was misfortuned enough to view a hand-made sign reading, “Today’s produce add.” This is only after two previous occassions on which I observed hand-made signs in which an apostrophe was used in a pluralized word. Are we really sinking this low?
I’m going to have to start carrying a Sharpie in my pocket.

Today was my first day of college at the junior college I am taking classes at. My first class was MATH 1314, College Algebra. There was nothing new, just a quick review of a number of Algebra 2 concepts. And judging by the early portions of the book, it doesn’t look like there will be anything new to me for a while. As I’m accustomed to, I worked alone and more efficiently (as far as I can tell) than the other people in the class, getting my problems done more quickly and with fewer questions than others. I think I am going to do well in this class.
While I was waiting for my class to begin, I went over to the computers in the corner of the lobby to surf and listen to my music. Not surprised at all, I found they were still stuck with Internet Explorer. Since I couldn’t install a real browser, I did the next best thing of providing them Portable Firefox and removing the IE icons. I was rushing, though, so it will probably be deleted as it is all sitting on the desktop. Next time, I’ll tuck the Portable Firefox directory away somewhere so it’s less likely to be deleted.
