IMGrammarBot 1.0.0!
After letting the amazing code for the new IMGrammarBot sit on my hard drive inactive for months and months, I’ve finally released it today. Go get it! It does amazing new things, such as:
- Connects to TOC2
- Runs multiple bots from one script
- Uses templates to colorize messages
- Has an amazing new configuration file and similar language files
- “Types” messages, delaying their sending

William, you are AWESOME.
I’ve been using this bot since it was just a little baby quick-PHP-hack, and I can certainly say that it’s come very far. I’ve always been a bigger fan of IRC above AIM because it’s a lot more intelligently written. Now I can bring such intelligence with me wherever I go! Ever since AIM switched TOC protocols, I’ve found myself with a lack of a bot, but thanks to Wild Bill’s very well-written re-release, this is no longer a problem.
Not only is IMGrammarBot the best grammar correction bot on the “market”, it’s also the best intelligence patrol bot. And its level of customization is unlike any other grammar correction/intelligence patrol bot I’ve ever seen. It comes with three pre-written string sets, so you can make it sound like an Old English speaker, or even your grandma! And they’re very easy to write, so if you want to make your own comical-sounding bots, the ability to do so is very easily within reach.
Plus, despite Wild Bill’s claims that it’s not intuitive to use, it’s actually fairly easy to set up, in my opinion. It may take a little while to someone who’s new to setting up PHP on their computer, but thanks to the HTML-formatted, easy-to-read README, it’s actually not all that hard to someone who’s used PHP scripts from the command line before.
I suppose I’ve rambled on enough about how awesome this bot is. I’ll just state it in as simple of a manner as I can: IMGB is GREATNESS. Seriously. Download it now. Bask in its glory. Share it with your friends. Now. That’s an order, Private!

I actually went ahead and downloaded IMGB 1.0 a few days ago and poked through the source. A lot of the functionality in there (dynamic configuration, loading a configuration from a file, etc.) I couldn’t have figured out on my own.
In a contest of PHP skills, you could easily beat me without much effort. ;[
